LASG SET TO CELEBRATE WORLD THEATRE DAY ON MONDAY  

Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, in conjunction with TIGOLF Travels, has concluded plans to celebrate this year’s World Theatre Day on Monday, 27th March, 2023.  

A statement signed by the Director and CEO of Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LSCAC), Mr. Idowu Johnson, said the International Theatre Institute and the International Community declared World Theatre Day to draw public attention to the need to embrace and appreciate theatrical performances. ​​ 

According to him, the celebration of World Theatre Day is aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of theatrical arts, how theatrical performances have played an essential part in the area of fun and the improvement that theatre made over the years. 

“This Day is commemorated by staging theatrical productions at venues throughout the country and worldwide. The significance of theatrical arts is highlighted on this day and how they have served an essential part in entertainment and total improvements that theatre has brought about in people’s lives”, he stated. 

The Director averred that as part of activities marking the day which has the theme: “Theatre and A Culture of Peace”, the troupe from the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LSCAC) would be having a Special theatrical performance to commemorate the day with a Play titled: “The King Must Die”.  

He informed that the Play, directed by Tolu Fagbure and written by Yinka Folahan, would be staged at the Lagos Theatre, Igando on the day.  

 All theatre lovers and residents are invited to the theatrical performance scheduled for Monday, 27th March at 2 pm.
